About the Author Charles M. Davis is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, earned a license as Chief Mate, Ocean Steam and Motor Vessels, any Gross Tons, and has experience as a deck officer on general cargo, tanker and container ships. He has actively practiced maritime law in Seattle, Washington, since his graduation in 1973 from the University of Washington School of Law. He is also the author of Federal Supersession of State Workers’ Compensation Acts as Applied to Jones Act Seamen, U.S.F. MAR.L.J. 185 (1996); SKY REEFER, Foreign Arbitration & Litigation Under COGSA, 8 U.S.F. MAR.L.J. 73, 1995; Apportionment of Damages in Collisions at Sea, 50 WASH. L. REV. 933, 1975. He teaches courses on maritime law for the Marine Insurance Association of Seattle and private seminars, and is a frequent speaker on maritime issues.
Synopsis of the Book This book is intended to be a compendium of practical maritime law to provide a quick reference to the cases and statutes referred to and cited frequently in the practice of maritime law, to review identifiable issues of law and to state what black letter rules may be applicable.
